Aztreonam for Injection
Description: Astronam Injection is available in dry powder injection.
Dosage: it is administered intravenous or by intramuscular injection
Adults – Urinary Tract Infection – 500mg or 1gm is slowly administered dilution with normal saline on 8 to 12 hours interval.
Moderately sever Systemic infection – 1g or 2g slowly administered on dilution with normal saline on 8 to 12 hours interval
Severe Systemic or Life threating infection – 2g slowly administered on dilution with normal saline on 6 to 8 hours interval
Maximum recommended dose is 8g per day
Child – Mild to Moderate infection – 30mg/kg, frequently on 8 hours
Maximum recommended dose for child is 120mg/kg/day
Uses – Aztreonam injection is used for the treatment, control and prevention and improvement of the following disease conditions and symptoms;

- Patients unable to tolerate Penicillin and Cephalosporin
- Pneumonia
- Hospital acquired pneumonia
- Meningitis
- Gram –ve sepsis
- Urinary Tract Infection
- Osteomyelitis
Contraindications – Known hypersensitivity to Aztreonam
Special precautions – May Cause Bronchospasm
Adverse Drug Reactions – Nausea or vomiting that doesn’t stop, fast/irregular heartbeat, Confusion,
Easy bruising/bleeding, ringing in the ears, seizures, chest pain, yellowing
Eyes or skin, dark urine, severe stomach/abdominal pain, unusual fatigue
Drug Interactions: BCG Vaccine live, Cholera Vaccine, Typhoid Vaccine live
Mechanism of Action – Aztreonam is a Bactericidal antibiotic which inhibits synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, by blocking peptidoglycan crosslinking
